It’s no secret that the Honda City e:HEV is the most fuel-efficient car in our stable. In our real-world tests, it has returned an incredible 26.2 km/l. But we wanted to see if it could pull off an even more impressive feat – 1000+ km on a single tank of petrol. So, we set off from Bengaluru early one morning, with the intention of making it to Mumbai before nightfall.
The City e:HEV is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and an electric motor. The motor is fed by a battery that’s constantly being charged by the engine. This setup allows the car to run in electric mode at low speeds, which is extremely efficient. In fact, in our tests, the City e:HEV has been able to run at speeds of up to 60 km/h without using any petrol at all!
We made good progress early on, and the City e:HEV lived up to its fuel-efficiency reputation. We were able to cruise at speeds of 80-90 km/h without using too much petrol. In fact, even when we pushed the car hard, the needle barely moved. We stopped for lunch at a roadside dhaba, and the City e:HEV’s fuel-efficiency was the talking point among all the other customers. Everyone was surprised that a car could go so far on so little fuel.
As the day wore on, we started to approach Mumbai. We were still feeling confident about making it to the city on a single tank, but we knew we had to be careful with our petrol usage. We made it to the outskirts of Mumbai with ease, and we even had enough petrol left for a little celebration. We eventually made it to our destination with over 10 km/l to spare – an impressive feat indeed!
If you’re looking for a car that’s efficient and can go the distance, the Honda City e:HEV is the perfect choice. It’s sure to put a smile on your face, whether you’re saving money at the pump or impressing your friends with its incredible range.
