It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new Hyundai Tucson on our roads. The last time it was launched, back in 2015, it didn’t really set the sales charts on fire. In fact, it was only after a hefty price cut that the Tucson started selling in decent numbers. But Hyundai is nothing if not persistent, and the Tucson is back, this time with a completely new design and a host of new features.
We caught up with Tarun Garg, Director of Marketing and Sales at Hyundai Motor India, to find out more about the new Tucson and what it has to offer.
Garg: The all-new Tucson is a completely new car. It’s been designed from the ground up and is based on an all-new platform. It’s longer, wider and taller than the outgoing model, and has a longer wheelbase as well. So, it’s a completely new car in every sense of the word.
Autocar India: What about the engines?
Garg: The all-new Tucson will be available with two engine options – a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel. Both engines will be available with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Autocar India: What kind of fuel efficiency are you expecting from the Tucson?
Garg: The petrol engine will have a fuel efficiency of 16.38 km/l and the diesel engine will have a fuel efficiency of 18.42 km/l.
Autocar India: What are the main USPs of the new Tucson?
Garg: There are several USPs of the new Tucson. First of all, it’s a very stylish car. It has a very modern design and is loaded with features. It’s also a very safe car and comes with a host of advanced safety features.
Autocar India: Tell us about the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that’s been fitted to the new Tucson.
Garg: The ADAS is a system that uses sensors and cameras to monitor the surroundings and provide assistance to the driver in various situations. It’s a very advanced system and is very beneficial in improving safety.
Autocar India: What are your thoughts on the current state of the diesel engine market in India?
Garg: Diesel engines have been under a lot of scrutiny in recent times, but I think the market for diesel engines is still very strong in India. There are a lot of customers who still prefer diesel engines, and I think the all-new Tucson will be very popular with them.
Autocar India: What are your sales expectations for the all-new Tucson?
Garg: We’re very confident about the all-new Tucson. We’re expecting it to do very well in the market and we’re expecting it to be one of our best-selling cars.
