New 2023 Honda Civic Type R – everything you need to know

It’s been a long time coming, but the all-new Honda Civic Type R is finally here. And it’s fair to say that it was worth the wait.

This is the third-generation Type R, and it’s a radical departure from the previous model in terms of both design and performance. The most striking change is the new, aggressive bodywork. The car is lower, wider and longer than before, and it’s adorned with a host of aerodynamic add-ons, including a huge rear wing.

The Type R is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces a whopping 316bhp. That’s enough to propel the car from 0-62mph in just 5.7 seconds. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, and power is sent to the front wheels.

Honda has worked hard to make the Type R a more rounded package than its predecessor. The previous model was renowned for its raw performance, but it was also notoriously difficult to drive quickly. The new car is much more user-friendly, thanks to a host of chassis and suspension tweaks. It’s still a serious performance machine, but it’s now much more accessible to a wider range of drivers.

The Type R is also packed with technology. It comes with a state-of-the-art infotainment system, and the car can be equipped with a host of driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist.

The new Civic Type R is available to order now, with prices starting from £39,950.
